They Didn't Know The Music Was In My Soul (Baby)

March 28

8mi, 56:04 (7:01/mi): LS8+xtra. Decent considering I have whooping cough. Running on vitamin C and assorted teas.

March 27

12.5mi 1:28:30 (7:05/mi): LSCC+there 'n' back. Nice easy run in the rain. Gave the old pair of shoes early retirement. I'd explain why but it's stupid.

March 26

10mi, 1:06:44 (6:40/mi): Accidental Lasso. Yeah, it was hot. Tried to fartlek. It didn't work that well. 3x5min with 60s recovery. Then things fell apart under the Lake Street bridge. Jogged around aimlessly, accidentally creating a lasso. Heading home I latched on to a kid riding his bike and held the pace for an 800m pick-up. Did the same thing only much shorter with some roller blader a little while later.

6+ (45:01) A&W Ext. First time up the "extended" part of this run in a while. had been just running, you know, home. Felt very good, though; quite strong, and mostly like I was lazing around the GC, which for the most part, I was.

Lazing is also an accurate description of this morning, when I intended to run, but slept instead. So I switched up today and tomorrow, making today just an easy run.

Thursday PM: usual 4.5, legs a little tired from running hardish on Tuesday, but still surprisingly fast. I got an added boost from the guy at a stoplight who told me I was "looking good," as though 1) I needed encouragement on an easy run, and 2) random women runners really like strangers to talk to them like that. Did some abs when I got home, and I'm embarrassed to say that they were amazingly sore from abs on Tuesday. Ridiculous.

AM: 8+ (59:22) Str8 Shot. Ugh. Felt like the mileage increase was weighing pretty heavily on the legs today. Could also have been the rain and 40 degrees. Felt decent on the way down to the river, but turned around straight into the wind, and promptly got pretty cold. I was in full Carleton warmups (you know, the light rain-jackets that are all numbered 35 and matching pants) which promptly plastered to my body and sucked all the heat out of me. So that could also have had something to do with me feeling terrible.

PM: 4 (27:35) WF Ext. Talked Phil into coming with me, and felt 100% better than this morning. Talked France and Business. Rain was still there, but much lighter than this morning. Wind also seemed to have died down a little, and the run was half as long. But I felt very much like I could have done more, which compared to my double on Monday, is a big improvement. Booyah.

17+ (2:00:07) Hyland. Tom made us keep running the extra minute to make it two hours. I was unhappy about that. Today's long run was MUCH harder than last week, but Biz informs that we were going significantly faster, and it was over 2 miles further. Nice to have it done- this one was kind of weighing on me. Longest run in a long time, and it went acceptably well. Felt beat-down tired, but no real aches and pains to worry about. Ran the last 15 minutes or so "uptempo" I'm actually not sure we sped up, but it definitely got harder for me, at least. Nice to have company for the long runs.

ps. Happy anniversary, Tom and Phil.

Saturday AM: craptastic run to top off a craptastic week. Was going to run an hour, but right after I turned around to head home suddenly was struck with the urge for an immediate bathroom. As there wasn't one, the half hour home involved about 20 minutes of walking. That was a little chilly as I'd been soaked by a downpour 10 minutes into the run. I did see monkeys in the zoo, but couldn't find the bathroom--a poor trade off if you ask me. Walked in the door and straight into the shower, and promptly decided to go back to bed instead of going to the historical society. Best choice of the whole day.
