Hey, Hey, Mister Man

March 21

12mi, 1:20:42 (6:44/mi): Como Etc. Ran the first two miles with Boulder and then added on with the intention of doing a workout. Got to Como and picked it up for once around the lake. 9:15, whatever that means. Nothing was sore, but right hamstring and lots of my core felt tight, so I stretched and headed home rather than complete a second loop. Just gotta keep running...

Day Off. Last day teaching for a little while. And, if you haven't checked out the race Brooksie is running this fall you can get the details here. Meanwhile, Alison will be doing this race in May.

March 19

8mi, 1:00:58 (Boulder Miles): Actually completed this run in AM and PM segments, both with Boulder. The longer involved a jaunt over to Como and getting moderately lost trying not to travel back along the same route.

Thursday AM: 10 minutes up, 8x1 minute pickups, minute recovery in between, 10 minutes down. Pretty pathetic in terms of a workout, but I haven't done anything more than saunter around since October, so that always feel good. Managed to have the wind directly in my face for the entire cooldown which made that portion of the morning feel even worse.

I think I must be channeling Jessica's early morning spirit. No other way to explain 2 morning runs in one week. It's just not me.

8+ (1:00:17) LSCC from BD's house. Ran with Boulder, Tom and Biz, all three of whom put me to shame by adding on. Boulder actually stopped when I did, but he ran in the morning too. Some discomfort in the knee, probably because of the pace variations. Good company, though.

8+ (53ish) GC Wkt. 2 miles up, a little more than over to the golf course. The plan was to run 2x GC loop, trying to find something resembling a long tempo pace (that might turn into MP as I get into better shape). So I was hoping for 6 min pace, which would be 13:30 per loop. Failed to do either of those things. Instead I ran 2 loops in 13:01 and 12:53. Felt pretty uncomfortable, all things considered, but the second one felt slower, and somewhat easier effort. I also discovered that either the GC loop is short of the 2.25 that I've estimated or the 1200 segment is a little long, as opposed to a little short. I hit the "1200" in 4:40 and 4:34, which is more like 6:10 pace if it's a 1200. Given the averages were more like 5:50, I'm guessing it's a little from column A, and some from column B, too. Either way, probably a good thing to have done a workout, even if it didn't accomplish what I wanted.

Saturday AM: "long" run, probably about 7. Tons of fog and really humid, but a nice temperature. Felt better than the last time I ran 7, so that's always nice. Still tired at the end and the form was suffering. But I saw a tiger in the last 10 minutes of the run, which was pretty cool. First time I saw animals despite cutting through the zoo on every run. I guess they only show themselves early on Saturday mornings.

Week: 16 miles, and my back feels them. Skipping abs for the last couple months is catching up with me I think. Maybe I will get in shape by osmosis with both Hooley and Corey staying with me tonight. I totally think that will work.

15 (1:43:11) Hyland. Yeah, 'bout half an hour with Biz, and then back to the parking lot to catch some Richfield kids for about an hour. The last two miles (after we dropped of the high schoolers) I talked Biz into letting the leash out a little, and felt pretty good. Overall, longest run in a while (at least a couple months) felt great. I could tell that I have been avoiding hills, but that's understandable. The distance wasn't an issue, which is a good place to start. I would have been fine going for another half hour (though I think that would have been detrimental in the long run...) Very pleased with the effort, hope to be on dirt more often!

Lundberg-

My version of osmosis: put Hooley and Corey under my pillow while I sleep, just like I did with my bio textbook in high school. It's foolproof.

Your version of osmosis: something dirty
