I am an American aquarium drinker

April 22

17mi, 1:52:40 (6:30+/mi): The Luscious. Beautiful run in the rain down the east bank to the Falls and then on the Parkway over to Nokomis and back. Ran into Giggles and his buddy after about 20min and had a lovely chat with them over to the Lake. Negative split the way back, including about a 3mi pickup where each 800m is marked on the west bank - cruised at 5:40-45 pace before adding on through the bucket of snakes. Lovely run.

Week: 70mi/6days. OK, considering the distractions this week. But I do need to work on implementing the CSED plan a lot better, since it's such a great plan.

April 21

PM: 12.5mi, 1:24:28 (6:44/mi): Edison Track + cool down back to PP. 2x1600@T, 1x800@T, some running with the rest of the crew, 1x800@T. 5:19, :20, 2:42, 2:39. A rare instance where the undue burden itself caused the abortion. Here I refer to the wind and heat. Frustrated, but I got some decent miles on the day. Kudos to those who managed to run 10K pace today.

AM: 4mi, 27+ (generous): Isles+. No matter how tempting it might appear, do not order the "Big O' Chocolate Cake" if you're already having some trouble with the enchiladas at La Cuc.

April 20

12.5mi, 1:28:01 (7:02/mi): Hennepin-Lake. Up to Sherman's, down to Lake St. with Sherman. Nice easy run.

April 19

Day Off. Long Day.

Sunday PM: about 5, didn't feel so great, but still satisfying. Chicago has convinced me that the world is flat, very flat. Portland is challenging that conviction hardcore and making my body hurt in the process. No rain, just gorgeous sunshine, which was great until I realized how dehydrated I was. Oh well.

A good couple runs in Portland and heading back tomorrow to join the rest of you guys in the flatlands.

April 23: MTPO 1:13:04. Mountainous. Unfortunately, from el Muggerino's description of her travel plans, she is emphatically not headed to 2007 Polk St and it's environs. Gorgeous sunshine we got, hills we got. . .maybe I'm actually in Portland and I don't even know it. . .nope, wait, impossible. The law school would be soooooooo much cooler if I was out there. . .poop!

Cut the morning run in half today- just keeping the double for the sake of the rhythm.

Mileage plunges.

Monday: about 8, with Nick, Greenway to Lake of the Isles. And some strides to boot. I have nothing interesting to add.

Tuesday PM: 4.5 loop, very very slow, legs tired from the Portland hills, but the lungs were way happy with the slow pace. First run of the season sans underwear, felt awesome with a new pair of shorts. Go spring!

April 24: AM A & W ext 44:06. Felt alright, legs starting to return. Kept it pretty slow for most of the run, picked it up to marathon pace for the stretch along Central just to stretch the legs a bit, then returned to a light jog.

PM LSCC, 6ish, not the quickest run ever, but the company is difficult to beat. All-around, good day. Bedar.

April 16-22

41 miles. Another week in the 40's for me. I backed off on the long run (only 14) to allow a little catch-up for my nearly 35 year old self. Got in a nice early morning hike on 4/19 and an hour bike ride just after Sunday's long run as well.

I'll run 2.5-3hrs for the LSD next week and there should be hills involved as well. Found a sweet trail from my house to access even sweeter trail mileaj. Also giving certain consideration to adding the White River 50 mi (July 28, Crystal Mt., WA) to my Wasatch training plan. Confirmation of this intent in weeks to come.

April 25: 3 mi up, 1200 @ threshold, 3:47, dodging U of M Army ROTC kids running 20+ minute 2-miles, 8 x 200 W 200 jog focusing on form: 31, 31, 32, 32, 31, 32, 31, 30, another 1200 @ I was too lazy to get the effort to threshold, 3:52, 3 mi down. Mental fatigue is beginning to appear here on the final day of classes. Body actually feeling pretty good. I take it as a good sign that I arrived at school this morning and couldn't remember if I'd run, and if so, what the run had consisted of. So, not too concerned about the body, just need to bring my "A" brain on Saturday. If that isn't possible, I aspire to have at least a B or B- brain available for Get in Gear.

Brooksie: I like that 50 mile idea, but if that doesn't work out, you may want to consider the Rice Street Mile as your alternative race for that date. From what I hear, at least part of Wasatch is downhill, and so is Rice Street. It's like a perfect training opportunity.

April 25
7 (48ish) Grand Tour into Wkt.
Up to the GC, and over the short way to the bridge over University. Then down Columbia a couple blocks to Grand St. Followed Grand all the way down to 22nd, and ran over to Edison, where I was asked if I was the track coach. Then 4x 200 at "hard stride" effort. Trying to concentrate of form led to a couple of seconds faster than the last time I did this workout, before the Human Race. 32, 31, 32, 31. Solid effort, felt pretty smooth and was up on my toes for each of them. The legs are feeling a little better today. And I felt my knee less today than the last couple days, so overall a pretty good run.

Wednesday: 12 or so, with Nick, Not Quite Base 10. Included six or seven spontaneous pick-ups of varying length and intensity, negating any need for some strides. The fitness has not quite come around yet, but body's feeling pretty good, all things considered. I think I'll be sore tomorrow, though.

April 26: MTPO 1:11:48. Body is feelin' alright, a bit fatigued from yesterday but today felt quite similar to last Saturday. In other words, I was certainly capable of moving much faster, I just wasn't exactly willing. Luckily Brian Anderson didn't show up today. Anyway, no more classes this semester, which means I have two weeks to do an entire semesters worth of learning and regurgitating. I'll be, like, way happier around New Prague time. . .
