pre meet day on saturday. 4.5 miles with meissen.

sunday: green bay half. two guys were off the front and i was like: meissen, they're in the marathon (and crazy) right? and he was no and i was like: shit. four surges later i was 10 sec back. 12 miles later i was 20. oh well. 1:05:20 is a pr (barely).

Some fast front runners by the sound of it Matt. I can understand the surprise. Congrats on the new PR. Pretty cool to think that 3 people were running 1:05:20 or better at the Green Bay Half!

51 miles for me last week. 4 runs. An action packed weekend. Saturday morning: 2hrs and about 12mi. on the trails by a raging Monument Creek. 1:30 on the bike with Keeley/Sarah in the afternoon. Sunday morning: Drove 5 hours to Seattle. Gave a short presentation to 50+ booksellers on 2 new books, ran 18+ in about 2:10 including 2x2mi in the midst at 6:10 pace, drove home. Asleep by 2:30am.

Congratulations on the PR, Matt!

Almost no running for me the past few days. I was out of town at a theatre workshop, and then got home to come to the slow realization that it was time for us to put our old cat to sleep. I just got back from the vet's. She was my companion from the winter after I graduated college.

brooksie, i think you're getting a little old for that kind of schedule. or, at least, since i definitely am, you should be.

speaking of which, i took mon and tuesday off to write a paper. the paper is done.

so are my runs for today:
30 min AM
6o min PM

heather, so sorry to to hear about your cat. she saw you through some pretty interesting/intense years!

Have been battling a cold/asthma attack, so the past few days have been pretty limited. Today was 6.5 in 43:30, yesterday was 8.5 in 1:02:11. Hopefully this all will pass. I take off on Friday for the far north. Apparently it hasn't gotten above freezing yet in Churchill. Means that things will be pretty interesting on both the running and the godwit front.

Am excited about training again though, which isn't something that I could have truthfully said for most of this year. Sat down with some of the local guys here and planned out a racing schedule for the fall and that got me pretty psyched. Now I just have to follow through on it all.

Hooley, congrats on the PR. You gotta take those where you can get them.

Brooks, my little brother will be in Bellingham this summer. I've suggested that he should try to make a trek to your neck of the woods. I'll let you know if that actually happens.

Catchin' up:

Saturday: Run to parent's house, 1:03:27 (10ish), loaded lawnmower into car, was driven home, unloaded mower, biked to LP (20), moved boxes and furniture & drank coffee, biked to Nokomis (20), moved boxes & furniture, biked past Tom's(20), moved box, biked home(20), showered, biked to St. Louis Park(30), kicked it, biked home(30). 2+ hours biking total.

Sunday: Biked to Nokomis (40 min), run 1:35 w/Phil with a sprinkle of Chap, biked home (40 min), mowed lawn, raked, read. Lovely.

Monday: MTPO 1:09:47, biked to work (15 miles, 1 hr), biked home.

Tuesday: Bike to work (60), bike to Tom's (50), 5 min up, 5 x 5 min hard w/1 min jog recovery, 12 min cooldown, Saints game, bike home (20). Run was interesting. Never felt smooth, was working hard but felt really inefficient. On the plus side, legs felt good on the cooldown. Bad part was the blister that developed under the ball of my left foot, which hurts like hell.

Today: Bike to work (60), bike to school (50), lscc 45:48, bike home (20).

So there's been some biking going on. I figure I've got a little more time on my hands so I can't really justify driving all the way to Bloomington for work. It's too bad that biking sucks. Oh well. I'd like to start cranking the mileaj up a bit here but this blister is frustrating that a bit. Maybe it'll feel better tomorrow. . .

Heather, sorry to hear about your meow-meow, that's a tough thing. I went through that with my dog last June. It's still really hard to go to my parent's house and not have my puppy there wagging his tail and asking to be scratched.

Brooksie, you're a rockstar.

Senner, I'm gonna let you in on a little secret before you hit the arctic: regardless of fitness level, the polar bear can catch you. I promise. Don't tell anyone I said this, but it would actually kinda stink if you got eaten. Remember that on your breaks from the godwits when you're out seal chasing, alright?

really pretty day today. and productive too. it's amazing how i turn grades in one day, and feel totally free, motivated, and happy the next. weird.

anyway, wanted to get some faster things in between my weekends of 5min pace (last and next). but was not interested in getting particularly beat up. so cs and i jagged to the track and ran 12 x quarter (corey did the first 6). 68,67,66,67,67,66,66,65,65,64,63,61.
jogged some rest and some cool down. day: 12

Church, thanks for the link to Chris' post last year about the loss of Daws. Chris, that is almost a perfect description of Andromeda's last day, though she was never able to perk up to her old self. She was a whisper of the feisty, stubborn, brilliant, loyal friend that I have known for 16 years.

It was definitely the right decision, as she didn't react at all to the needle or anything else, but it was impossibly sad. I'm weeping again just thinking about it. I miss her horribly. She's been at the door waiting for me every day but for two 6-week spans when I was directing in Iowa and 3 days that she spent at the vet's after Boston. She was always a cheese whore, and it about broke my heart tonight to go to the fridge and pull out some goat's cheese to spread on fresh bread and not have her little paws on my legs begging to let me lick the knife.

I did get out for a run today. 9 miles at an easy pace. It was nice to be out there except for when something brought up the tears which led to hyperventilation.

thanks for letting me wax emotional. Kelly is in Bloomington to close on our house at long last, and I'm home and lonely here in Auburn.

Matt, congratulations on turning in your grades! No wonder you are feeling fancy free and ready to roll!

May 22: Bike to work (60), bike home (60), Diagonal 8 50:18. 6 x 2 min uptempo with 1 min jog recovery. The faster sections kinda re-irritated the ol' blister, but it's not too bad. Might not be getting in much between now and Sunday, but I guess that's cool.

Probably done biking for the week--just gonna head to work for a couple hours tomorrow, not long enough to recover before the ride home :) Also have to move some things that are larger than my backpack. About 125 of biking over the first 4 days though, which is a lot of not-driving. Or so my legs tell me.

Congrats on getting rid of the house Heather--if you're looking for one in Mpls, well, I've got one that you could buy. . .

House is sold. Chris, much as I'd love to be able to hang out with you all in person and finally have some running partners, I'm not up for those winters...

Got in around 9 miles today, mostly on trails. I'm feeling as heavy-legged as I do when running 90 miles in a week. Don't know what's up with that, but I expect it has a lot to do with stress.

bizyah said...

May 23: A & W 36:27. Legs were alright, a bit heavy but not too bad. Foot still annoying so tomorrow's gonna be real light, but it's not the worst thing in the world.

Heather, you wouldn't even have to move here, you could just buy the house, I'm not picky. That goes for the rest of you out there as well :)

Hools said...

biz. be at your house tonight. i'm going to call you.

run. was with corey and was an hour long. call it 9.

Last Saturday: helping Phil move.
Last week and last Sunday: no running, except 2 blocks on Sunday. Strained muscle in my calf.

Today 2 miles, little under 15 minutes. Felt pretty good, all things considered. Took until Thursday before my leg started to feel better, despite not running at all. We'll see about this 5k tomorrow...

A sparse 30mi week for me. Felt tired and out of sorts, so I didn't push it. Ran 5 days, and shuffled through everything but a "10k" trail race on Saturday morning. 32:39. It might have been 5.6mi. I was victorious in 11/12 games of horseshoes with Mr. William Kemper (of older Fellahs fame) over the long Memorial Day weekend!

Short jog on Saturday followed by a van ride to the greater Ashland area. For future reference, in case I lose the map we marked, the spot to camp next year is off Hwy 63 between Drummond and Cable--turn on N Pine Rock Rd and within a half mile there'll be a decommissioned logging rd on the left. Park, sleep. Booyah.

Sunday: There's nothing like a good Woods to Water. 5th leg, pretty sweet. Team was 2nd to Slabbahdabbahdoo. Nice work by the Triple A affiliate. Probably 12ish miles of running all told. Didn't do much warming up and cooling down on account of the blister thing.

Monday Brian Kraft 5k in slow time and manyith place. Warmed up a bit, then skipped the cooldown on account of the foot. Was out in 5:22, then 5:38, then 5:44. Got some work to do on this whole "running" thing.

Got some catching up to do. Nothing terribly exciting, though.

Saturday I ran around 13 miles at a slow pace and it felt hard. Sunday I did an easy 7 or so. Went up to Huntsville to run the Cotton Row Run 10k since I'd heard great things about the race and I'm contemplating running the Huntsville marathon this fall and wanted to see if the organization is as good as I'd heard. It was, but I wasn't. I've had many friends who can go out and race within a few weeks of a marathon. I've never even felt up to trying it. Fact is, it was not successful for me. I raced the slowest 10k I've run in 7 years - at my marathon pace from a month ago. Ugh. But that's ok. It was nice to get out there and it turns out that Huntsville is a very nice city. Today was an easy 6.5

Chris, as tempting as it sounds, I'm going to have to pass on returning to the days of paying a mortgage on a house I don't live in on top of rent on one I do...
