No drum machine can make a beat like that

June 26

4mi. Same. Morning again. Today's run followed last night's inaugural yoga class and I felt much better than I expected to after contorting myself - good enough that I'll go back for the rest of my free week. Spent much of last night's session very confused. Spent the rest of it sweating.

June 25

4mi, Shortcut Untimed. Yeah, my watch is in Duluth. And that's fine. I'm thinking about a no-watch-til-August experiment. Also starting to run in the morning (finally) this week.

June 24

4mi, Shortcut Untimed.

Week: 24mi/5days. Will add a day and maybe a workout next week.

June 23

8mi, Untimed. Ran around Isles with the Fellahs. Legs stiff but not dangerously so.

June 21-22

Days Off

June 20

4mi, Shortcut Untimed.

Tuesday AM: last run in Chicago which reminded me not only that I want to get the hell out of this city, but that I get to go to the wonderfully un-humid Portland for 3 weeks. The heat, humidity, and sun combined to make me feel like I had died and gone to hell. But still kind of sad to give up my 4.5 mile loop here. Kind of.

Friday will be my first run home, then a week in Idaho killing myself at elevation, followed by 2 more fabulous weeks of vacation with all of my crazy family. I believe that calls for a booyah!!

Monday
6.25 (39:15)--Returned from the field on Sunday night and got out for my first run in a week on Monday. Took a little bit more quickly than I had wanted, but it was a gorgeous afternoon. Thankfully it doesn't feel like I lost too much fitness (of what little I had).

Tuesday
8.25 (55:00)--The awesome weather continues. I suppose that's why everyone else in Anchorage decided to be out on the trail as well. Really can't complain though.

June 25: AM: run to pool, 23:30, swim 50 mins--went really well, run home, 22 mins. The running felt great, and the pool is getting better all the time. Dropped in a good, long warmup of around 2000 yards, then did some repeat 200's followed by some 50's to get a little turnover. Then some cooling down. Ended up being significantly late for work, but that's because they closed my entrance ramp.

PM: 16 mins HARD to get to Sherm's since I thought I was late, 4 more minutes of alternating hard and easy running trying to figure out if I'd missed everyone. Then they all showed up and we ran easy. 48 mins total. Good day. Hot.

June 26: Run to pool, swim 30 mins (trying to get to work earlier) run home. Run was 25/23 today, a bit sluggish getting going. Been working late to finish the kitchen. Swim, even better today. Warmup 1500 in under 22 mins, which is a good thing. Then some 100's and some 50's working on pace as well as fast-fast, then a cooldown.

June 27: 22/22 for the run to the pool--felt real good. 30 mins in the pool. Shorter warmup, like 500, then a bunch of drills working on balance, rotation, and all of that. Bunch of sculling. Managed to scull faster than the old lady next to me could swim her "dry hair breaststroke." Old people are funny. Then did a 200 at pace, a couple 100's at pace, then a couple of bust-ass 25's, then a cooldown. And it was good. Bedar.

Holy hell, this run sucked. AFTER the little rainstorm it was 93, ridiculously humid and there was no breeze. I wanted to do more like 8, but by the time I got a mile in I knew there was no way that was going to happen. I'm surprised my shoes didn't make that squishing sound they make after I run through a stream. I was sweating that much. Absolutely miserable.

Much better. High near 80 today made the middle-of-the-day run bearable. Also a nice breeze. Couple'a miles in 6:20, and it felt like 6:45. Just kept rolling with it, since it felt easy. The extra half mile was coming home from Tires Plus after a slow leak in the driver's side rear tire. Always the driver's side rear.

6.5 (41:58)--Exhausted from another day tromping around black spruce bogs, but had a decent run nonetheless. Now it's time for some sleep.
